Our Teachers

Our school is made up of seven classes. The Nursery and Reception (Class A) make up the Foundation stage. (3 to 5 year olds), Classes B and C are the Key Stage One classes. (5 to 7 year olds), Classes D, E and F are the Key Stage Two classes. (7 to 11 year olds).

Each class is taught by a qualified teacher who works with at least one other classroom assistant in the room. We believe that the staff within the school are the best resource that a child can enjoy and learn from.

This means that – on average – each Oldfield Brow child is part of a class with an adult:child ratio of 12:1. This means that every child receives more individual attention than could normally be expected.

Every child is seen as an individual but the teachers too are not simply educationalists, they are real people! So here’s a ‘snap-shot’ of the teachers who work at Oldfield Brow…

Mrs Hodgkinson - Nursery
Mrs Hodgkinson loves the outdoors and especially walking her dog. She’s a person who loves learning and would like to learn a foreign language. She enjoys working alongside the children and getting to know their parents too. Her favourite sport is tennis but also admits to be strangely drawn to the Italian national football team!

Mrs Norbury - Class A
Mrs Norbury’s earliest school memory is like some of her pupils – drinking milk from little glass bottles, but these days it’s cartons! She likes going out to the cinema as a family. Before she trained as a teacher she did some volunteer work in her local primary school and loved it so much it became a career. She loves teaching her class and seeing children learn new skills for the very first time.

Miss Brash - Class B
Miss Brash used to be a water sports instructor. She loves sailing and being outdoors and has really enjoyed teaching children to sail, climb and to windsurf. She enjoys seeing children excited and motivated to learn and this is what inspired her to follow a career in teaching. Her other interests are art and music. When she has the time she enjoys blowing glass and using her kiln. Miss Brash loves making music and leads the school choir, her only wish is that there were more than 24 hours in a day!

Mrs Hardman - Class C
Mrs Hardman became a teacher because she wanted to inspire children and help them reach their dreams. She keeps in touch with many of her primary school friends from when she was at school. She’d love to write a book but until then will enjoy listening to her favourite song – Perfect Day by Lou Reed – and teaching the children that she says make her smile and laugh each day.

Mrs MacKenzie - Class D
Mrs MacKenzie’s favourite football team is Scotland and she’s very proud of her Scottish roots. She enjoys working with her children as she loves seeing them developing their existing skills and improving their learning. When she can, she loves to ski and would love to travel the world with her own children.

Mrs Thornton - Class E
Mrs Thornton teaches the children in Class E. When she’s not teaching she loves to play tennis or spends time visiting the theatre. She became a teacher because she wanted to make a difference and draws inspiration from her own children.

Mrs Timmins - Deputy Head & Class F
Mrs Timmins is our Deputy Headteacher and teaches the oldest children in the school. She loves drama and her favourite film is Grease. Her earliest memory is getting a Tiny Tears doll when her brother was born. Away from school she loves to shop or enjoys supporting Wolverhampton Wanderers! One day, she would love to swim with dolphins if she’s got the time!
