Welcome to Oldfield Brow Class D.

Class D is the first of the junior classes at Oldfield Brow Primary. In this class, the year 3 children are supported through the transition from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 2 whilst the year 4 children continue to become more independent and progressive learners. Led by Mrs MacKenzie, the class teacher, and supported by Mrs Flute, our aim is to provide an effective, stimulating and secure learning environment where each and every child meets their potential.

The subjects areas studied include Literacy, Numeracy, Science, Information and Communication Technology, Religious Education, Physical Education, Music, Art, Design and Technology, History, Geography and Modern Languages. The timetable is varied and we aim to cater for the individual learning styles of all the children in the class.

Each morning in class D we begin with the Literacy hour. We follow Trafford’s Literacy scheme of work and regularly use ICT as an inclusive tool in our lessons. Our interactive white board plays a central role in whole class teaching sessions and the children love the many innovative and engaging teaching tools it offers.

Following the morning break we have an hour dedicated to Numeracy. As a school, we use the Abacus maths scheme of work and find this creates a consistent approach to numeracy teaching and learning throughout the school. The children enjoy the familiarity they have with the scheme and this is evident in the continual progress they make.

Our afternoons in Class D provide an opportunity to study the foundation subjects. We have weekly slots in the school’s new ICT suite, which all the children greatly enjoy. We have specialist teachers who do fantastic work with the children in art and modern languages. The science lessons are also an excellent opportunity for the children to learn through practical activity and investigation.

Class D is keen to develop the home-school links formed throughout Key Stage 1. Any support from parents, both in school and out, is greatly appreciated and has an important effect on the children’s educational development. Oldfield Brow is very lucky in its support network and Friends of the School and this makes for a happy and successful learning environment for everyone.
