Welcome to Oldfield Brow Class C.

We are the Year 2 class and very proud to be spending this year in our brand new classroom which is separate from the main school building. You can find us just across the Infant playground in a lovely bright, modern classroom where, we like to think, magic happens!

As this year is our last in Key Stage 1 we are preparing ourselves for a smooth transition into the Juniors – we do this by following the rules of good listening, making good choices with our behaviour and in all our work/activities we keep in our hearts the school motto that “only the very best will do.”

We have a very busy timetable with a varied curriculum – some of the many different ways we learn are … practical explorations, structured play activities, formal written work, whole class discussions and collaborating in small groups or with a partner.

Throughout our time in Class C we are busily developing our independent reading and writing skills, improving our awareness/knowledge of numbers and doing mathematical investigations. This ensures that we are fully prepared to take part in the end of Key Stage 1 SATs by the end of our time in Year 2. We are looking forward to the tests because it’s our chance to show how very hard we have worked and how clever we have become – we are also extremely excited at the prospect of an end of SATs celebration party!

Of course Literacy and Numeracy sessions are very important parts of the school day and so we are very fortunate to be supported by the wonderful Mrs O’Keefe each morning – she is an excellent and very experienced classroom assistant who supports and encourages us in all our efforts. Having two adults working in our classroom ensures our needs are met and we get lots of help and attention with our learning.

We adore scientific experiments and are always enthusiastically involved in the wide variety of topics we cover – during the Autumn term we extended our geographical knowledge and map reading skills through our topic of Katie Morag and the Island of Struay...

ICT is an essential tool that we use everyday to enhance our learning – we have a PC, interactive whiteboard, printer, scanner and digital camera in constant use in our classroom.

Some of the many other brilliant subjects we experience are: modern foreign languages – we are doing French and Spanish this year! We take part in Football Sessions with training from fully qualified coaches. Other special visitors regularly visit our classroom to encourage our creative development for e.g.; we take part in pottery sessions and have fantastic art and craft experiences with The Owls.

So all in all we think Class C is a really great, busy place to be – we take care of one another and have respect for our school environment. One of the reasons our classroom is such a special place is because we have a Trophy Wall to celebrate our achievements – we all start on baseline on a Monday morning then steadily make our way up to bronze, silver and gold. If we make it to gold by Friday afternoon we have earned our golden time and feel very proud of ourselves and each other!

Please feel welcome to come and visit Class C and look at our wonderful displays and new room and resources? We have two parent helpers coming in to support DT and cookery activities at the moment and any other volunteers would be happily accommodated.

Thank you for your support.
